Many parents wonder if their child is ready to begin piano study.  One important thing to consider is whether or not your child shows interest in the idea.  The age for starting lesson varies from child to child.  Any age where your child shows a willingness to play is acceptable.  Books are available for beginners of all ages, from pre-schoolers to adults.  To make the process more enjoyable for both parent and child, consider these tips:
.Select a few different piano books and let your child pick the one he or she likes best.  It's important to let children play music they find enjoyable.  Perhaps purchase a few pieces of sheet music that your child likes.
.Choose a teacher that your child feels comfortable with.  Ask around about teachers in your area and let your child have a voice in the decision.
.Kids should maintain a regular practice schedule.  Consider making a practice chart where kids can cross off the days to make sure they are practicing enough hours each week.
.Encourage your child to participate in contests, recitals, and other events in your area to show off their newly learned skills.  Many local piano festivals offer trophies for steady work and participation.
.Ask your children to play for you occasionally, but don't push them if they are not ready.  Show an interest in what they are learning and be open to their ideas.
